ABSTRACT  This presentation will summarize the importance of Colorado River Basin water to the State of New Mexico.  In addition to its use for irrigation, public supply, and power generation in the San Juan Basin, the Colorado River provides water to the Rio Grande Basin through the San Juan Chama transmountain diversion project.  This water is a major source of supply for the Cities of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, and other communities along the river. The presentation will also discuss drought planning on the Colorado River and close with a few observations on similarities and differences between the Colorado River and Rio Grande systems.

INVITED SPEAKER Rolf has worked on water quality and water resource management issues in New Mexico for over 27 years.  Eighteen of the last 19 years were spent working for the NM Interstate Stream Commission helping manage the Rio Grande upstream of Elephant Butte Dam and providing institutional and technical support on Interstate Stream Compact litigation in the case of Texas v. New Mexico.  More recently he has been supporting the ISC’s Colorado River activities.
